for every civilization there comes a time to grow up

While growing up in California I was mystified and intrigued by horsehead oil pumps. They seemed like pawns or hypnotic ants, destined to continually work.   I use them now as a source for telling stories about our dependence on oil and also as a way to look at ourselves and our actions through their "eyes".  Oilies (my name for them) are easily anthropomorphised to exhibit emotions of guilt, pain, love, and fury.

Are we simply crash test dummies mimicking sentient beings, about to hit the wall, failing an evolutionary experiment in consciousness and wisdom? Will we brace for impact and watch wasteful lives flash before our eyes?

In these troubling times, most people could a good hearty laugh. Enjoy a laugh with us at the expense of the technofixers :)
